Fragment of a Gnostic hymn, Central Asian Turkish...

In your great height, bright Realm
The heavenly musicians perform joyful pieces of music
My God, each piece alone evokes countless melodies
If one plays such a composition in your Realm, my loving God
The sound is echoed twenty thousand miles away, in far off lands
And in other dimensions, filling the cosmos
I bow down, my God
Before thy exquisite, beautiful countenance
Completely perfect art thou, oh merciful one
For you are the beneficent, merciful one, full of compassion
Who has mercy on us

The performance of music is a form of worship, an act of love. Every quivering lute string, every passage of air sounding in the flute echo the love of God, each vibration an act of devotion.
